The world is addicted to Pokemon Go, and when it recently launched in over 20 new countries, it brought down servers and had everyone wondering how in the world they’ll ever catch them all. CBS in DC recently covered the outage, citing a number of tweets—including mine! I had tweeted “Halfway through my 8 mile walk and this happens. Time for an Uber home. #pointlesswalk #pokemongo.” Of course, I was far from the only Pokemon addict left floundering when the servers went down, but luckily they were up and roaring again soon.
It’s interesting that most people are either loving the game or hating it. True, there have been a few people who have been hurt while keeping their eyes glued to their phone, but that’s not that different from mobile-related accidents due to other addictions (Facebook, anyone?). I’m personally happy that there’s a mobile game that not only gives us a touch of nostalgia but also is getting everyone moving.
Pokemon Go is beloved by all ages, genders, races, backgrounds, you name it. Anywhere you go, you’ll find small groups huddled together and taking photos of the Pokemon they find.
